Memory is fragile, yet the love we hold for those affected by Alzheimer’s remains unbreakable. In this collection, artist Deborah Sisco explores the emotional journey of those living with Alzheimer’s and the families who walk alongside them. Each painting represents a stage of the disease or the struggles, resilience, and emotions experienced by loved ones.
This series is more than just visual expression—it is an invitation to reflect, to feel, and to remember. Every brushstroke carries a story, capturing the complexities of memory, identity, and human connection. As a final tribute, a diamond graces the dot in Deborah’s signature on several key paintings, a symbol that no matter how time and illness may alter perception, a loved one remains precious—always a diamond in the hearts of those who cherish them.
Engaging with themes of loss and the passage of time, this series combines painting with poetic language and spatial design to construct an environment of contemplation. Rather than depict the experience of Alzheimer’s directly, Sisco translates its emotional undercurrents into rhythm, texture, and atmosphere.
Step back. Look closer. Let these works resonate with your own experience. This journey is different for every viewer, just as every memory holds its own weight, beauty, and meaning.
Each painting is arranged in one of five emotional zones, which create an emotional arc of the journey of the family dealing with Alzheimer's.
Zone 1; Prelude to loss - This zone holds those first fractures— subtle, tender, and irreversible. Not yet loss, but the echo of its arrival
Zone 2: Disorientation and Loss In this zone, the ground tilts gently. We walk with care, through the blur, toward what remains. Zone 3: Care and Holding On In this zone, we hold what cannot be held. We care, even as the edges fray. Zone 4: Interlude Zone 5: Vanishing Point
